Name: Jeff
Location: Calgary, Canada
Birthday: 7/27/1981
Gender: Male

Interests: Music...Goodnight thats a common interest. Lets mix it up. I like random adventure at times when I least expect it. This is not to say I'm against organized adventure. I like a challenge. I also like those ritz crackers with the cheese in the middle. I like fine wine, good sheesha, and genuinely kind hearts. I also like things that go boom. Especially but not limited to fireworks. I love my God. This is getting long. Just read the blog. You'll figure out what I like/dislike.
Expertise: Procrastination. Its an art all in itself. I'll tell you all about it...later. If any of you are familiar with the old trick of rolling a coin across one's knuckles, I'm also an expert at that. Yes I realize how well those 2 things would look on a resume.

Long time no post and yet not much new. Pros and cons for the week:

Pro: Got a new Kenmore stacking washer/dryer combo
Con: It fell on me. ow.
Pro: Finished up the last of my Arabic lessons
Con: I'm less certain now that my language skills will ever tip the scales in my favour, should I ever find myself in a life or death situation in the middle east. I can however count to 100 and ask where the bathroom is. The possibilities are endless.
Pro: Just booked time off in August. Taking my dear old Dad to Las Vegas for a little father/son vacation time.
Con: Nothing yet, but just you wait...

Stupid Cupid

"Now abide faith, hope and love, these three; but the greatest of these is love."(1 Cor 13:13)

That's right. In shortly under a weeks time, people all over will be expressing their love for one another in the form of candy and chocolates. Cards and flowers. Kisses and hugs. Sickly sweet poetry riddled with pet names and cutesy little doodles. Now I bet you all thought this was going to turn into some sort of a bitter rant. Well you're probably right. If I had the chance, I'd kick Cupid squarely in his elbow...it was the first thing that came to mind...although I suppose it's best not to PO a half naked man with a bow. Clearly the winged little midget has issues. I used to think he was just spreading the love in alphabetical order(no not really...don't be stupid) and that he'd eventually get to me, but everyone knows he draws names out of a hat. A very very large hat. So perhaps it's possible to imagine that my name is still in there somewhere. Seriously though, I truly do hope for those of you out there with a significant other to celebrate it with, that you take the time and appreciate it. I pray that you and the one you love live in such a way that it makes all the single people out there want to kill themselves(figure of speech), because that's the way it should be. Make other people want what you have. Set an example. Oh and guys? C'mon, do something romantic for the girls, it's one of the few times you can get away with it and not have them suspect you're "up to something". Cheers to all you crazy kids!

"There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle."
 Albert Einstein  (1879 - 1955)

Pfft. The guy probably thought he was pretty smart after writing that... Living life like everything's a miracle. Someday I'd love to be able to say I live my life like that, but it seems like everyday without fail I prove the contrary. I pray for God to provide me with perspective... and then do everything in my power to avoid the trials and hardships that so often come with the territory. It's all or nothing. What's it going to be?

"We don't read and write poetry because it's cute. We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race. And the human race is filled with passion. And medicine, law, business, engineering, these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay alive for "- Dead Poet's Society

I love that quote. Even if a) I would make a horrible poet. And b) I have different reasons for stayin alive(Bee Gee's joke?...anyone?). It's the purpose behind the quote, and I whole heartedly agree that sometimes, the important things in life may not seem like the most practical.
Tuesday Jan.24th I begin my trip into the wonderful wide world of arabic. Eight weeks of lessons and if all goes well, I should be able to speak such witty phrases as "I need your bathroom.", and "The cheese is old and moldy" by the end of it all. I may...just may... be able to count to 10 as well.  Next up on my list of things to learn, ballroom dancing...no...really. Expand your horizons people. Go do something fun for 2006. Something you may not have done in 2005.
